Waxed bomber from BevMo, J St, Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brn/blk with a slight dark tan head. Aroma is primarily chocolate with underlying notes of peat and fruit. Full bodied. Flavor is dark chocolate, earth, peat, some capsaicin type heat, and something like a dark cherry or plum. It’s not dry, but fairly far from sticky. I think the malt and heat are standing in for hop. It does a fair burn number in the gullet. The initial flavor impression is fresh, chocolate, fruit and complex. It might be a very distant relative of Crime. Very good drink.

650 ml bottle. Pours black with moderate tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of sweet roasted malts, nutty chocolate, whiskey, and dark sugar. Flavors of dark slightly smoked chocolate, liqueur filled chocolates, dark sugary syrup, and smooth roasted malts. Lightened by the scotch, but not overbearing and not too sweet. Super stuff.

Bottle from Whole Foods, they had the case hidden away but I knew who to ask. Haha. Pours a pitch black color with a small beige head. A huge nose of dark fruit, roast, licorice and massive scotch smoky barrels. Huge flavor here as you’d expect, smoky hot Scotch, dusty, earthy, peaty. The base is strong, roast, licorice, some dark fruit. But damn, the barrel is just massive here and quite lovely. Finishes vanilla smoky heat. Great beer.
