On tap at the brewery. Pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is great wow light on the peat smoke I was thinking it was going to be a smoke mess but very pleased it is not. Taste is barrel notes roast ash some light smoke. Very nice.

22 oz bottle. Pours black with a light brown head. Molasses and whiskey aroma, cocoa powder and maple syrup. Syrupy cocoa flavor, molasses, whiskey, raisin, anise, a bit smoky. Certainly really, really good.

22 oz. bottle, pours a thick, motor oil black with a small light brown head. Aroma brings out lots of chocolate fudge, scotch barrels, light vanilla and brown sugar. Flavour is along the same lines, with a rich decadent profile of brown sugar, chocolate fudge, scotch barrels and a touch of vanilla. Not too boozy, but it certainly has a kick. Rich and decadent. Lovely.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Pitch black pour with a tall dark tan head that is slow to rise to the surface and that ultimately creates a smooth velvety lacing that persists to the finish. Amazing look. Notes of scotch whiskey, molasses, smooth licorice, tons of dark chocolate, light vanilla, some oak, roasted malts, more dark chocolate. Very well balanced, perfectly smooth texture. A pleasure to drink.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 12/9/2016. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, vanilla, cream, scotch whiskey, toasted oak, dark bread, and peat smoke; with lighter notes of licorice, charcoal, cherry, raisin, prune, fig, date, red wine, leather, tobacco, nuttiness, and roast/smoke/oaky earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, scotch barrel, and molasses/spice notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, vanilla, cream, scotch whiskey, toasted oak, dark bread, and peat smoke; with lighter notes of licorice, charcoal, cherry, raisin, prune, fig, date, red wine, leather, tobacco, nuttiness, and roast/smoke/oaky earthiness. Touch of salty/saline scotch notes, but pretty minimal. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and light whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, vanilla, cream, scotch whiskey, toasted oak, dark bread, peat smoke, charcoal, light licorice/dark fruit, and roast/smoke/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, scotch barrel, and molasses/spice flavors; with an awesome roasted bitter/sweet and whiskey/oak spiciness balance; and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from roast bitterness and whiskey/oak spiciness, increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a smooth, rich, creamy/silky/velvety, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Pleasantly warming 12.3%, with zero barrel booziness after the finish. Overall this is an insane Scotch barrel aged imperial stout! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, scotch barrel, and molasses/spice flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Extremely rich and complex. Pretty much perfect balance of the Scotch barrels; great presence, without being overwhelming, tannic, boozy, or drying. A really amazing and world class offering; and my favorite of the abyss lineup so far.

Waxed bomber. Aroma is chocolate, leather, tobacco, licorice, soy sauce, vanilla, peat. Pours inky black with a small dark tan head that lasts a minute before falling into a ring and some lace. Taste is sweet and follows the aroma, with pronounced peaty notes, some strong coffee and raisin flavors that I didn’t really get out of the nose. Silky full mouthfeel. Undoubtedly the best Abyss variant I’ve had, possibly surpassing the original (which I haven’t had in awhile), but I love peaty, smoky beers, so maybe it’s just me.

Bottle. Pours opaque black, small brown head, dissipates fairly quickly, good lacing. Aroma is molasses, hints of licorice, cocoa, whiskey and a hint of smoke. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter, quite pleasant and very low on the peaty scale for scotch BA beers. Fullish body and creamy mouthfeel. Good chit.

Oh yeah. Malty, roasty, bitter chocolate, molasses, plenty of vanilla. And the Scotch barrel aging is there, mostly in the finish with some
