Together we’re brewing a riff on the flavors of the classic raspberry ice cream sundae. This beer features raspberry, cocoa and vanilla, in addition to lactose (an unfermentable sugar) that adds a richness and a sweetness, helping to blend and meld the flavors of this ultra-complex beer together. It’s been a true pleasure to work with artists at The Bruery using ingredients and techniques outside of our normal wheelhouse.

Not bad but not the best raspberry beer I’ve ever had. Aroma is raspberries and malt. Flavor is raspberries malt and a little milk sugar. Body is okay. Somehow it doesn’t all come together just right though.

12 oz. bottle from the 2017 Sierra Nevada Beer Camp 12-pack purchased at Whole Foods Market Fair Lakes Aroma: chocolate, raspberries, vanilla, caramel Appearance: clear amber with an off-white head Taste: medium sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate: medium body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish, Odd drinking a dessert beer which is not a stout, but I liked it

12oz bottle pours out a reddish color topped with a small head. Nose is lots of sweet malts raspberry cream notes and a vanilla note. Taste is more of the rich sweet malts plenty raspberry notes.

Pour is a clear red-ish with a large white head. Aroma is a faint raspberry and not much beyond that. Flavor is raspberry and again I did not get much beyond that. I definitely did not get any cocoa and vanilla. This does have a sweet and silky mouthfeel which I guess is from the lactose. This was kind of a one trick pony with the raspberry none of the other adjuncts showed up in my bottle.

Love the idea behind the mix pack. The beers? Not so much. Take Raspberry Sundae Ale. Does this beer kinda-sorta taste like a raspberry sundae? Yes it does. Is this a good thing? Reply hazy try again. Sweet, too sweet for me to make it through a pint, with an opening splash of vanilla and chocolate set against a modest caramel grain middle. Raspberry pops up on the back end, but the lactose makes the adjuncts too clingy and pronounced, leading to a cloy finish and a saccharine fade. Medicinal bitterness only clutters the back end even more, and any complexity from the add-ons comes across as gimmicky and overbearing. Man, I hope I can get this raspberry sweetness off my palate before the next beer. Pass.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/21/2017. Pours pinkish orange/amber/light copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of juicy/lightly tart raspberries, vanilla, cocoa, cream, honey, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/caramel, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of bready malt, raspberry, vanilla, cocoa, lactose, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big juicy/lightly tart raspberries, vanilla, cocoa, cream, honey, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/caramel, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy hop and cocoa/roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of raspberries, vanilla, cocoa, cream, honey, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/caramel, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, raspberry, vanilla, cocoa, lactose, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slight dryness from bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly slick/syrupy/sticky/acidic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is a nice experimental fruit/spiced beer. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, raspberry, vanilla, cocoa, lactose, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Was expecting a more heavy fruit and sweet flavored dessert character; but the bready malt profile balances out everything nicely, and it still tastes like a beer. Very well balanced and never overwhelming on any aspect. Never artificial feeling. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle from the mix pack from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours clear copper with a large creamy/foamy beige head. For me the aroma is simply raspberry. Med body or so. Flavor is raspberry, and then there’s a flavor flow: raspberry, vanilla, cocoa powder. Pretty far from dry. Raspberry flavor is about as bitter as it gets. Drinkable, but not something I’d seek out. Certainly not my desert island ale.

A clear gold colour with the usual nice head of foam from SN.
Raspberry nose is sweet in a cough drop like way. I get some vanilla but that medicinal smell throws me off.
Lactose mutes the raspberry vibrancy,imho.
I get some cocoa and I get that this is a complex beer but my tastebuds don’t find the harmony of flavours.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a copper (dark) color with a small white head. A big fruit and vanilla nose. Certainly big raspberries, some sweet vanilla, does remind me a bit of a vanilla ice cream cone, soft vanilla beans. Sweet. Works well I think.
