(355ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours nearly black with a small fine off white head, fairly stable with lace. Aroma of toast, chocolate bar, brown sugar, slight dark fruit, oak, a little peppery rye whiskey. Flavour is rather sweet with raw sugar, dried dark fruits, cold coffee, light chocolate. Finish is drier with more oak, toast, increasing whiskey. Some alcohol heat, otherwise no bitterness. On the lighter side for style, light carbonation. A little sweet and boozy feeling overall, but pretty decent whiskey-aged dark ale.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Dark mahogany colour, small creamy head. Chocolate, toast and notes of whiskey up front. Mid sweet with medium-full body and soft mouthfeel. Mellow chocolate flavour with growing contribution from whiskey. Long bitter finish with mild peppery alcohol. Rich, yet relaxed. Another truly well made beer from Anchor.

Draft at the brewery during the tour. Reddy mahogany brown coloured pour with a thin greyish white head. Aroma is nice vanilla , oak, light bourbon, not boozey, red fruit, cranberry. Flavour is composed of brown sugars, little toasted malts, maple syrup, oak and vanilla, tangy berry, raisin. Palate is medium sweet, light oak, moderate carbonation. A very well balanced ba beer. I like it.

Pour is a near black with a small tan head. Aroma is a sugary molasses with some alcohol. Flavor is a sugar bomb with a slight roasted malt. I get almost no barrel aspects from this beer. I had to take a large swallow to make sure I was not missing something here and I still could not find any oak or barrel char. With so many barrel aged beers out there now you better have a distinct barrel, wood aged flavor and this beer does not have that.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA.Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of mild rye and moderate treacle. Med body or better. Flavor is rye/treacle; it’s not dry, but it’s not sweet; it has whiskey, but moderately so; it’s pretty tasty stuff. Finishing a bit towards bitter. Another really good ale from Anchor.
