(Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with creamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, oak wood, black rye bread, vanilla, whiskey and plums. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, plums, raisins, wood, vanilla, brown sugar, orange peel, hints of whiskey and a mild roasty bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. Tasty, well balanced and harmonius. Great beer.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a light tan and brown coloured head that fades fairly quickly and only leaves a light lace on top. Aroma of caramel, pungent toffee, yeast, bread, light alcohol, some pitted fruits and even a dose of light chocolate. Medium-bodied; Strong malty and nutty flavour at first with a big dose of grain, coffee, earth, peat and even some light hops, but the pitted fruit is by far the strongest, such as prunes, raisins and a touch of apricots. Aftertaste shows the coffee and peated malt notes front and centre with a larger kick from the malt and grain and a touch of alcohol notes near the end, all with a fairly good balance throughout. Overall, a pretty nice beer - this is a pretty up front Belgian Dubbel with an American slant and an unrefined yeast strain that shows nicely, but not as good as a pretty poor [real] Belgian offering. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Knightly Spirits in Orlando (Orange Blossom Trail), Florida on 05-May-2018 for US$3,13 sampled at my house here in Washington on 21-December-2018.

Very dark color with a fine tan head. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a mellow carbonation level. Felt a bit thin actually and a bit to sweet. Dark malt, oak, mild whiskey, toffee and some fruity notes.

Anchor Barrel Ale 7.5% A cola brown with a thick luscious beige head. It has a very chocolatey aroma with some woodsy notes. The taste is solid giving you roasted malts, tannic wood, a fleeting whiskey essence and nuttiness. I bought this from about 650¥ at Asahiya meaning for Japan it gives you good bang for your buck. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Musty rye whiskey, molasses malt, and hay aroma. Black with moderate tan head. Moderately sweet molasses/chocolate malt and moderately bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice body and balance. Rye whiskey aftertaste. Very tasty.

Pours dark brown, not that much carbonation, small tan head. Aroma has some prunes, bit of caramel, slight booze. Taste does not really feel like a barrel aged beer, quite mild, prunes and caramelised sugar. Very mild in many ways, cane sugar and burnt candy that is almost bitter. Long brown sugar linger in the finish.
