The shack at Windansea beach is an iconic part of the San Diego landscape, almost as much as the fiercely guarded waves that break upon its shores. Every so often a winter storm washes the shack away, but like clockwork, a salty-haired local hero resurrects it. It’s tradition, and Windansea Wheat is a beer created with this tradition in mind. Brewed true to the Bavarian style, this beer is served hazy and unfiltered. A closely guarded strain of Hefeweizen yeast creates that unmistakable aroma of banana, clove, and a hint of vanilla. At Windansea beach, you may not find many friendly faces out in the water if you haven’t paid your dues. But this Windansea Wheat’s got your name on it.

[On tap at the Pickled Monk, Fullerton, CA.] A hazy straw coloured pour with a ring of white head; wheaty body with a touch of banana. Refreshing, but not quite the full Hefeweizen experience.

Tap at Bud. Very estery nose with lots of cloves, wheat biscuits. Very sweet and cloying with huge cloves again in the flavor. Rather light, touch of citrus and vanilla. Not so good.

Karl Strauss Wind and Sea Wheat 5.1% 12 IBU A cloudy gold that looks like pineapple juice with a tangy citrus and wheat aroma. Medium bodied with a raspy carbonation the taste is very sweet cloves that almost verges on cream soda and tangy fruit. A middle of the road wheat beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
