The shack at Windansea beach is an iconic part of the San Diego landscape, almost as much as the fiercely guarded waves that break upon its shores. Every so often a winter storm washes the shack away, but like clockwork, a salty-haired local hero resurrects it. It’s tradition, and Windansea Wheat is a beer created with this tradition in mind. Brewed true to the Bavarian style, this beer is served hazy and unfiltered. A closely guarded strain of Hefeweizen yeast creates that unmistakable aroma of banana, clove, and a hint of vanilla. At Windansea beach, you may not find many friendly faces out in the water if you haven’t paid your dues. But this Windansea Wheat’s got your name on it.

From tap at the brewpub in Carlsbad. Pours hazy to murky yellow with a lacing white head. Fruity estery banana and wheat aroma. Fruity and wheaty flavour, classic clean and banana fruity. Lingering banana fruity finish. Goes a bit dryer in the finish.

On draught at Islands restaurant in Huntington Beach, served with a lemon. The beer is a hazy yellow-gold color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. Wheat, bananas and clove in the nose. Medium, clean body with wheat, tropical fruit and sweet spice flavors. The finish is fruity with a lingering wheaty aftertaste. Above average overall.

Draft at the downtown brewpub. Nice banana nose with clove notes. Hazy gold color with a white head that filmed, but did some lacing. Starts with excellent banana and clove. It only improves with time. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation. A nice, clean clove finish.

Tap - This is a nice pleasant hefeweizen. It’s very drinkable, mild citrus flavor. Sweet and smooth while not really being fantastic in any way.
