Ichijoji Red Ale 6% 30 IBU Deep red verging on brown with a barely beige head, possibly off-white? Very minimal so hard to tell. Mild biscuity and hoppy herbal aroma. Medium bodied and at first I felt homebrew like and kind of rough but paired with food that vanished and I got semi-sweet malty caramel, biscuit and pepper with a herbal hop bite. Solid.

On tap at their stall during Gion Matsuri. 500 yen a small glass. Ichijoji Red Ale 6%
A deep reddish brown that verges on black with a creamy off-white head. Malty earthy and sleep hurly yeasty aroma. The tast is a piquante brown malt with nuts and dark bread. The finish is a bit bitter hops giving herbal notes. Pretty good kind of reminds me of a scotch ale, looks like it has evolved since last March.3.3 July 2016

A clear red-brown color with a thick creamy head of foam that evokes Guiness. A malt toffee aroma on a smooth and fairl full body - luscious. The taste is full of biscuit and toffee malt but with a sharp finish. Eminently quaffable so it is no surprise that it won Bronze at the IBC n 2016. 3.6 So let’s split the difference to 3.5

Tap at Tadg’s.Nose of caramel, chocolate, a touch of minerals. Cloudy brown-orange with a low, fine head. Sweet caramel flavor, very minerally, metallic even. Thin, bitter, somewhat harsh finish. Meh.
