Pouring an exceptionally clear gold for something that calls itself a weizen, it has a subdued tangy clove estery aroma but also an odd lagerish edge to it. So far, so underwhelming. Raspy bodied with a clove and artificial sugar like sweetness with light dry wheat flour malts. Not a fan. This is a pretty butchered weizen so I call the Pilsner in this series the clear winner by a long shot which is no surprised from a Japanese brewery that specializes in lagers.

Can from the factory. Clear gold (obviously a Kristal Weizen) with a thick, low head. Nose is typical of the style, somewhere between a pils and a hefeweizen. Just a bit of esters, wheat, otherwise rather pils-like. Crisp and wheaty flavor, sweet, light esters and honey. Ok. A bit too sweet but crisp enough in the finish. Much like a wheat lager.

350 ml can. Pours clear and golden, moderate head - does not really look like a weizen at all. Aroma has some soapy nostril-filling malt, some sweet wild berries underneath that blanket. Taste is weird, no wheat character whatsoever, some bitterness, plastic and wet cardboard. Short bitter-dry aftertaste. Not really a weizen, I don’t know what it is. Average industrial beer, nothing more.

Can from a liquor shop in Nasu, Tochigi, Japan. A cloudy golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Yeasty aroma. Tastes thin, yeasty, wheaty, cloves not great to be honest.

light, fairly flavorless mainstream weizen. Very little clovey notes. Boring.
