Tap at Komachi. Shiny black with a low head. Citrus hops in the nose, lemon, grass, coffee. Tasty and balanced. Nice hop flavor, chocolate and some coffee. Very bitter. Good but a bit pedestrian. It doesn’t come close to the higher ABV black IPAs they have made. Comes off to me as a thin, watery one, pushing the session concept too far.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Poured into an English tulip pint. Pitch black with a modest off white head. Grapefruit, pine, and lemon notes quite pronounced with hints of cacao, arugula and coffee. Medium body with nice lively carbonation. Bitter on the palate with a really nice refreshing dry finish. Slightly peppery as well. Great stuff! --- Beer merged from original tick of AfBA on 26 Sep 2015 at 23:33 - Score: 8

Bottle from Yamaoka. Great hoppy bouquet of zesty pine & lemon with chocolate malts. Smooth full velvety body. The taste is peach, pine, fruity citrus really full on hops, a touch of roasty dark malts, sharp raisin & stone fruits. More in the vein of an IPA than a dark beer but very well made.
