Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary.
Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience.

Sample from 2011 bottle during Blarney Wine Festival 2018 on 03/17/2018. The beer is a cloudy brownish-amber color with a medium light beige head that recedes gradually to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing. The aroma consists of caramel malt, dark fruit and yeast. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, oak, dark fruit and earthy yeast. The finish is smoked malt and fruit. Pretty good overall.

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of butterscotch, toffee, sweet malt, light spice, booze. Flavour is light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A little disappointing and one dimensional, expected more from this.

Bottle shared thanks to Kermis. Hazy dark amber with some little things floating around. Lots of sweet malts, sugars, butterscotch, yeast, bitter herbs, maybe some light smoke, toffee, dried peach. Over medium sweet with alcoholic bitter finish. Full bodied, with low carbonation and the body just dissoves in your mouth. Weird beer, not too bad but a bit one dimensional.

Bottle split at Bruces pad - for the last time, big thanks to Scopester, 27/03/15. Murky amber orange topped with a moderate beige swirl that stays for the show. Nose is rich fruit, spice, fruit cake mix, dates. Taste comprises caramel, dark fruit peel, light spice, booze tunes, fruit cake, toffee fudge. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with lightly warming booze. Decent barley wine.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Paul. Pours unclear amber with a few floaties and a creamy tan head. Suggestions of oxidation in the aroma, crackers, caramel, toast. Medium sweet flavor with some smoked meat, dry caramel, toasted grains, slight earth. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with some ripe semi-dark fruits, more toast, creamy caramel, alcohol, toasted rye, subtle smoked ham, honey. Great stuff overall.
