In the words of Nate, Angry Amos is “an amped up collision of [Baird] Angry Boy and [Country Boy] Amos Moses.” Floor-malted Maris Otter anchors the grist bill which also features Munich, Crystal, Aromatic, Chocolate and Wheat malt. The hop bill too borrows from both beers, featuring Columbus, Chinook, Cascade, Galaxy, Apollo and Millenium in the kettle, and a massive dosing of German Tettnanger as dry hops in the conditioning tank. Before dry hopping, though, Angry Amos took a unique 2-month Kentucky detour through Maker’s Mark bourbon barrels. Country Boy brewer Nate says of the finished Angry Amos: “Between the malt depth, the massive load of hops, and the barrel aging, it’s an extremely complex ale that changes as you drink it.”

Tap at GBF. Dark red brown colour. Small golden head. Aroma is bourbon, sweet, fruity, booze mainly, but nice. Taste is little bit spiky but nice smooth roundness too. Bit of toffee and caramel too. Pretty interesting. Fruity. I like it.

Tap at CBB. Dark cloudy brown with lace. Big bourbon nose, vanilla, butterscotch. Nice fruitiness in the flavor, good caramel, tons of bourbon. Tasty and enjoyable, but a bit too much bourbon for my tastes.

9.2% draft, 800 yen for a half pint. A mild aroma but with definite woody/barrel quality to it. The taste is smooth with lots of whiskey/bourbon flavor & a smooth chocolate malt base. Quite nice.

Nonic pint draft at Eiderdown in Louisville, Kentucky. The pour is a hazed brown copper with a well formed small tan head that leaves behind great lacing. The aroma is initially bright red wine and oak character, nicely integration with a caramel nut maltiness. The taste continues with the nice integration of the wood oak barrel notes, which are more Bourbon than red wine in the flavor, and the malt fresh natural nut and light sweet. The palate is medium to heavier bodied, soft natural carbonation, and the alcohol is nicely balanced into the beer. Fun beer, doesn’t hit you over the head with the barrel and booze like so many of these style beers do. I had no idea this was a collaboration with Baird until I saw the RB listing.

on tap from Nakameguro Taproom. This is a bourbon bomb! I have had some beer aged in whiskey barrels before but this really beats them. There is strong, sweet and rich bourbon nose, with some mellowed hops in the background. Taste confirms the first impression as this full bodied beer has a lot of malt sweetness, flavoured by bourbon barrel and with hop bitterness in the background. This is a BIG beer, with capital letters! I spent almost two hours with 400 ml, enjoying every minute of it.

Russet, brown color. Big bourbon nose with vanilla beans, but not so much oak. The mouth is full bodied and alcohol is really well hidden for such high ABV. Amazing bourbon notes. Malty. Big bad assed beer and really really good. Tons of bourbon in the finish. Fantastic.
