At the Royal Standard of England, nr Beaconsfield. Clear, almost no colour (just the slightest hint of green). Slight fizz, but very thin. Equally light on the flavour, which given what the flavour’s like (artificial pear flavour with a hint of detergent) is probably just as well. Sweetish, although not excessively so. A dismal, dumbed-down perry for the alcopop generation.

From the box at Full Monty. Light nose, pear, apple. Pale clear yellow color, flat. Medium to light body, quite sweet, ok. Not a whole lot going on.

Bottled. Pale yellow colour with no head. Aroma is tart wood, pear, some mild farmyard as well as mild yeasty notes. Flavour is sweet, but quite tart and acidic pear along with some mild cheesy and vinegary notes.

Cask at the inn on the Green, Bristol, 3/9/08. Pale, slightly hazy yellow. Aroma of sweet pears with a touch of yeast. Easy drinking with a hint of sweetness, plenty of pears and a short dry finish. A decent summer drink.

Boxed at Charlies. Pours cloudy to hazy yellow to orange with no head. Sulphorish dry perry aroma. Low carbonated mouthfeel. Sweet initial flavour with a solid citric/acidic note. Lingering perry citric finish with a following smooth sulphorish note. Perfect on a warm summersday.

Polycask thingy at the Bell Inn, Tillington Herefordshire, near Loz’s parents 04-04-08 Still, light lemon in colour in fact this was very pale, I’ve drunk water in West Yorkshire where Loz’s parents used to live that had more colour than this. Strange aroma that was sort of wet pants, (I’ll say no more) Tastes very good, a tad on the sweet side, pears are there but if anything it could just do with a bit more oomph on the abv side.

Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pour completely flat, looking like diluted apple juice. Very light aroma of sweet red apples and pear jam. Medium sweet and very light bodied. Fresh, if a bit thin. ALmost candyish with a tang if yeast. The very light flavours seem a bit more concentrated inthe finisg. Refreshing, but not very interesting.
