An authentic German style lager brewed with pilsner, dark-roasted Munich, and dark caramel malts. The result is a deep, golden-colored beer with smooth body. The best ingredients create the best beer. We use a bottom-fermenting yeast strain from the Weihenstephan yeast bank from Freising, Germany, and aroma hops from the renowned Hallertau region in Southern Germany. ABV 5.5% Bitterness 22 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Bouteille @ OTH.

Bottle. Poured a clear copper color, small head. Aroma was grassy, hops, malts. Flavor was, uninspiring, but drinkable. Absolutely nothing wrong with this beer.

12 oz bottle from Costco, Bakersfield. Nose of grassy hops, light bubblegum, and caramel. Clear orange with a medium off white head. Flavor is lightly bitter, with a smattering of caramel and white pepperiness. Nice Vienna.

Pours clear copper with weak white head. The aroma is lager-y , sugary, a bit earthy and with sweet apples and prunes in the background. The taste goes from mildly estery to sweet lager-y, sugary, fruity to faintly spicy. It ends a touch on the dry side.

12 oz bottle into lager glass. Aroma of caramel, cheap grain (at first--it seems to disappear quickly). Pours golden with a medium dissipating head; leaves a nice collar of foam and sticky lacing. Taste is a little sour, sweet, and then bitter. And then sour again. I’m no vienna expert, but this tastes an awful lot like an amber ale--one of my least favorite styles. Too malty for me.

Bottle: This was one depressing brew... I can’t beleive the effort it must have taken to trap the true aroma of skunk lager in a bottle. Smells bad and tasted slightly less bad. I just didn’t find a single thing in this beer to warrant rating it above the minimum. If it had been me that bought this I would have returned it.

Bottle from Costco. Orange gold color with a decent white head. Aromas of grain and fruit. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is a bit weird. There’s fruit and hop spice, and malt, but there’s something extra. Linoleum paste came to mind. Quality product, but hard to pin down the extra flavor.
