Visit an Old World lager brewery and the brewmaster will insist that you enjoy a "keller" beer direct from the aging tank. To a brewer this is beer at its purest: unfiltered, nuanced and gently carbonated.
Southampton Keller Pils is just such a brew. And each year we make it with a different hop variety to create a unique interpretation of the pilsener style. Enjoy!

Bottle courtesy of MaltDawg at the 12th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 09/18/2010. Clear pale golden body with a medium rocky white head. Sweet honey and pilsner malt aroma. Sweet pils malt flavor with some honey and spicy hops. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

Brooklyn Beer and Soda ($10): Pours golden with white head. Skunky aroma coupled with hops. Don’t know if this beer has been sitting too long... maybe seeing as it is a spring seasonal. In any case, it tastes fine. Vegetal aspects might be getting the best of it by now. Doughy feel to it. Very, very crisp. Exactly what I need right now considering that I have been cleaning my overly hot house all day.

Pours light gold into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet caramel and hop aromas. Soft yet crisp with slightly sour hay upfront turning peppery in the middle and on to a lasting dry bitter finish.

Tap at East Village Tavern, NYC. Pours a mostly clear, yellow-gold with a strong, fluffy white head. Pungent aroma, punctuated by a considerable hop presence. Flavor is lightly sweet with faint grass and grains, but mostly bitter. Light to medium in body with fine effervescence. Finishes extremely crisp and short. Really nice beer.

Fair pilsner, with a nice stinky saaz like aroma and flavor, a little musky, grassy and piney. Light palate, not as crisp as I’d like, and fairly clean, not revealing any yeasty character like I’d hoped. Hazy yellow, modest head.

I dont know if its because southampton is such a hoity-toity place that i automatically have a stigma against the brewery, but slowly but surely i am coming around after this and their double white. This was a snap decision buy before going to a party on july 4th, and it was such a hit that we had to go out and get another 3 six packs. Great flavor and color thats very refreshing on a hot day. this will probably get me into more of the southampton beers.

Finally an American brewed pils that I can really sink my teeth into. It’s crisp grassy hops and clean finish bring you back again and again. So very refreshing which is my #1 criteria when downing a pils on a 95 degree evening. Think I’ll stick with it all night.

Clean yeasty arom with no ill olfactory. On the eye its clear pale yellow and lots of bubbles on the inside of the glass but no head. Sharp astringent killer peels flavor. Nice amount of crisp CO2. Finish is short sharp stronger pils bite.

On Tap at Mr. Beery’s in Sarasota. Pours clear deep gold with white head. The aroma has spicy hops, a mild level of fresh corn and then heading into a thin layer of sweet malts at the end of the draw. The taste is similar pushing up some sharp spicy hops with floral hops around the edges and mild grainy malts and corn off in the background. Pretty refreshing brew.

[Update - I tried the bottle version today for comparison, and the six packs are just as good as the draft version - it would seem that Phil has really hit his stride brewing on a larger scale] Growler from Big Z - pours a lightly hazy pale gold - soft, dry, herbal, grassy aroma - really wonderful and crisp - a bit of malt sweetness up front, followed by some light toasted graininess, but the star of the show here becomes the hops - dry, crisp, medium-bitter - malts become dry and crackery to compliment this - peppery, grassy finish - a fantastic pils.
