Lucky Lager was created in 1934 in San Francisco, California by the General Brewing Company, founded by Eugene Selvage. At the same time, Lucky formed a strategic partnership with Coast Breweries in Vancouver, Canada, and granted them the Canadian rights to the product. In 1958, Coast Breweries was purchased by Labatt Brewery. In 1971, Paul Kalmonovitz purchased the General Brewing Company, and when he later purchased Pabst Brewing in 1985, Lucky became a subsidiary of Pabst. Meanwhile in Canada, Labatt was purchased by Interbrew in 1995, which later became InBev when it merged with AmBev in 2004. In 2008, InBev purchased Anheuser-Busch to become Anheuser-Busch InBev, which still produces Lucky in Canada. In the United States, Lucky was discontinued in the early 2000s, but it had a brief revival in San Francisco with production support for Pabst by 21st Amendment in 2019 and 2020.

Can. Claims to be from General Brewing in Tumwater. Found this blast from the past at a corner liquor shop in Kyoto. Had to try it. Spicy, fruity nose. Seems like a Belgian blonde! A bit corny, though, with sulfur and ass. Some citrus. Looks like one too, cloudy brilliant yellow nearing pastel witha thin head. Tastes like a mild Leffe Blonde: sweet, spicy, yeasty. What is going on here? Is this just so old that it turned barnyard? It is unpleasant, but after reading the previous reviews, I am certian it is better this way!

500th rating!!!!!.....12 oz bottle, thanks Matt7215....Straw color, off-white thin head....smells like a cheap ordinary beer....light---surprisingly not bad...east to drink--simple and non-offensive---a slight sweetness with the low grade ingredients--I don’t’ dislike it......12 oz can thanks Robinvboyer...this was bonged....and not as good as the bottle...had a more bleh aftertaste....this was acquired as a birthday gift, and a trip down memory lane....Used to drink this back in 1995, when it was still brewed in Cali, and had the puzzles under the cap....sadly no more puzzles but Happy 31st B-Day Frank!!!!!!

The Sapperton Brewery made Lucky famous in Canada and here I am, in Sapperton, drinking a Lucky that I bought in Sapperton, that was apparent made at the now-defunct Sapperton Brewery. It’s like I’m living a historical beer fantasy come true. Light yellow colour. Grainy aroma. Body is light, slightly carbonic. Flavour is minimal, ranging from creamed corn to light esters to not much. Nothing to recommend about it, but it’s not vile like so many other budget brands.
