Het bier van Leffe werd gedurende 4 weken lang gematureerd met houtsnippers. Die houtsnippers werden echter voorheen gedrenkt in Schotse whisky! Het resultaat is een stevige, fruitige Leffe die toch wel duidelijke invloeden van whisky heeft in de smaak.

75 cl bottle bought at Maison Leffe, Dinant, then tasted at Melià Luxembourg Hotel, in snifter, side by side with my old man. A very hazy dark amber pour with a short-lived snowy head. Aroma is rather peculiar: smoked herring, mushrooms, saddle, umeboshi, dried apricots, timber, slightly rotten lemons, wax... Wow, many uncommon features. Mouthfeel is crisp, subtly salty and umami but not bitter. Silky, very low carbonation. Not long in the palate. Strange is the word.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Lior D's place. Thanks Tom L. Clear golden. Yeast, vanilla, candy, oxidation, cardboard, fruitiness, a bit of spiciness, caramel, sweet, alcohol. Not my thing.

Gekocht in de delhaize van Dendermonde met 50% korting op 28-07-2017. En geproefd op 14/01/2018. Leffe Caractère is een amber kleurig en mistig biertje dat bij het uitschenken een normale hoeveelheid wit schuim produceert in de vorm van een gelijkmatige laag, het is normaal wandklevend maar slaat vlug neer tot fijn laagje van 1 mm dikte. Nochtans zijn er veel middelmatige CO2 belletjes te zien. Het aroma is karamel zoet en fruitig met rozijnen, ook karamel mout is te merken evenals wat kruidigheid met kruidnagel en vanille alsook een whisky alcoholtoets. De smaak is zoetig en wat bitter, wat karamel, rozijn, een houttoets, kruidnagel en vanille en ook nog de whisky toets. In de mond geeft Leffe Caractère een volle body met een bitterdroogje en een romige textuur, iets zoals slagroom op een warme alcoholdrank. Leffe Caractère heeft verder een normale CO2 prikkeling en is licht verwarmend en harmonieus te noemen. De nasmaak vloeit uit en is zoet maar het bittertje vloeit lang uit, verder zoete karamel nog wat houttoets, kruidnagel en vanille. Ook de whiskytoets is er nog steeds bij. Na de Mount Hood en de Crystal is dit weer een zeer lekkere leffe variant, een zeer goede poging om een bier te maken met whiskysmaak, maar de houttoetsen zijn toch wat te sterk en overheersen zo (bijna) te veel het whisky moment. Bottle shared, Amber beer, small head. Aroma is weird, there is some wood, cloves, vanilla, sweet. Taste is the same, sweet, typical Leffe flavour, some whisky, meh honestly not worth the money.

Aus der Flasche bei einer Veranstaltung. Oranger Körper, kalt, angemessener Schaum. Aroma: Malz, Frucht, Vanille, etwas Holz. Geschmack: Whiskey(fass), Frucht, etwas Karamell. Ein fantastisches Bier.

Sampled @ tasting. Thanks for sharing Inoven, TomHendriksen and Roelzie1986. Clear orange color with a small to average sized off-white head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is malts, candy sweetness and a light hint of whiskey wood barrels. Interesting. Flavor has it too, it really tastes like whiskey and oak wood with the expected Leffe sweetness underneath. Well this is interesting indeed. Pretty well barrel aged, especially surprised since apparently this was not really barrel aged but "aged on wood chips soaked in Scottish whiskey". Usually you get a weak oaky flavor and that's it but this is quite well done.

Fles gedeeld door Roelzie1986, geprobeerd met Inoven en Benzai. Het is een licht troebel donker geel bier met weinig schuim. Het heeft een houtige geur. De smaak is zachte whisky smaak.
