Tap at Server Land. Strange. Fruity, sweet and musky. Almost something Belgian about it. Caramel too. Sweet. Quite unusual and good to drink but I'm confused. --- Beer merged from original tick of Pale Ale on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8. opalescent golden to orange colour, moderate sized creamy yellowish white head; aroma of bread, some marmalade and floral notes; taste is dominated by bittering hops - the aroma hops and malts completely hide in the background, unfortunately

Ot tap at Waseda Oktoberfest. Pours deep hazy orange, with bit of white foam. Quite strong yeast character, also has some sour notes. Tastes relatively sweet, some hops doing the work but maybe more on bittering side, not enough in the nose and also not enough to cover sweetness. Drinks nicely though, if you like sweeter and maltier pale ales that is.

On tap at CBM Jimbocho. Hazy golden color with a nice off-white head. Big aromas of yeast and spice and sweet malt. Almost like a saison. Nice creamy mouthfeel that is sweet on the palate. A little tartness comes out as it comes to room temperature. Nice sweet but refreshing finish. I like this but maybe the wrong category of beer they were aiming for.

Bottle from Kyoto Isetan. An opaque orange gold with a good centimeter of creamy off-white foam makes for a nice looking beer. Interesting aroma, fruity, floral and herbal a good mix of hops + yeast notes - possibly a tad too sweet. Medium bodied, the taste has lots of malty caramel as a base quite sweet but the hops are bitter pine bark, earthy, floral hoppy goodness. A mouth-puckeringly bitter finish. This surprised me, the taste had me expecting an English Pale Ale that was malt forward and sweet but this is halfway to an APA... a Japanese Pale Ale? Maltier than most APAs but with almost as much hop punch? Not the most complex hop profile but this is solid.

In a bottle. Copper colored with a medium, very fine head. Spicy, ginger-like aroma, Belgian-like yeast, some caramel and fruit. Slightly burnt, very spicy flavor. Yeast, amber malt, more than a bit like an Orval! Interesting. Dry, fruity, spicy. It is like an Orval copy, but a touch sweeter. (I wonder if they were trying?)
