pFriem Flanders Red is a tribute to the Burgundies of Belgium, the red ales that once captivated the country. Each glass is rich with notes of cherry, hints of passionfruit and a Pinot-like flavor that comes from the eighteen months it spent in an oak barrel. Take one sip, savor the tart finish and you’ll understand how one beer could charm a country.

375 mL bottle poured. 2017 vintage from the cellar, although I know I've enjoyed this fresh as well. Dark reddish brown appearance, plenty of froth foam head. Tart nose with some wine grapes, berry, and a soft oak. Big wine notes on the flavor. Very pinot with a nice, lingering dry but flavorful finish. Love the barrel notes on this one. Excellent sour, and wonderful with the age. Definitely adding this to my retry fresh list to compare some notes.

Sample at Aficionado's during the TTA Monthly Meeting on 10/25/2019. Cloudy brownish-copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Aroma of oak, wine, cherry and malt. Medium body with a tart cherry character and flavors of vinous oak, tart cherry, yeast and malt. The finish is tart and oaky with a cherry wine aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Cork-top bottle, 0.375l. Aroma of wine, ripe fruit, must, barnyard, cereals, aged cheese and wood. Pours dark amber color with thin creamy tan-like head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts medium sweet bready and toasted, following is tart fruity, vinous and woody with tannins, while mouthfeel is smooth. Medium body, creamy texture and lively carbonation in palate. Pffffuuuunky...

Bottle from Craft Brewed shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a clearish copper with a finger of foam that lingers. Cherry flesh aromas with some skin and oak notes. Lovely vinous notes as it warms. More cherry flesh, skin and pit astringency to play off of the sweet flesh. Tart and oaky finish. Solid.
