Did the flavors of sugar and bitter sweet almonds and coffee in Imperial Biscotti Break also make you sentimental? Now we topped it off with insane amounts of doughnuts. This all time American favorite is making it’s way back into the spotlight and we at Evil Twin Brewing are not letting a tasty trend pass us by without taking it to the next level. Drink it with great gusto - Forza Doughnuts.

Can from the "Vintage Selection" at Sterk - at just 3,50 I couldn't resist, even though I'm not too sure about beer that's been sitting in a can for 4+ years (date on bottom is 11/15/17, presumably the canning date). Pours pitch black with a brown head that doesn't last very long. Aroma from the glass is truly imperial stout: dark malts, roast, umami, plus some red fruit. Retronasal the sweetness comes out, with red fruit, brown sugar. Flavour is above moderate sweet, light roasted bitter. Above medium bodied. Alcohol is warming but nit sharp. Long finish with firm roast, moderate bitter. Pretty good after all these years.

(Bottle) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, black coffee, black rye bread, ashes, prunes, caramel, treacle, prunes, tamarind and some vanilla (sprinkles on top). Malty, roasted taste with coffee, cocoa, black rye bread, prunes, liquorice, caramel, toffee, a touch of tamarind and a balanced cocoa bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Not at all as artifical and sweet as I feared. Really tasty, complex and quite powerful. Very nice.

Ridiculously rich dark brown, and almost an oily black glow, all with a fairly thick, three centimetre tall rich brown head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of strong vanilla, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, earth, molasses and purely burnt sugars with a funky kick of mushrooms, soy sauce and some deep earthy, umami notes that don't really hint of fried dough or sugar, but rather that of fried meats or mushrooms. Full-bodied; Deep and strong pure sweetness from molasses, toffee, treacle, plums, prunes, figs and some of the smaller notes of fried donuts theoretically comes out, but just in terms of caramelised sugars with some oil and lipid notes. Aftertaste shows the deep malts with a rich body of the roasted malt along with some earthier, nuttier and definitely sweet grainy notes that has some bitterness, but more of the sweetness coupled with a pastry-like and vanilla-y bite at the end that shows more of a finish of sugars and malts than deeper alcohol and burnt malt notes that give the idea that a light aging and some tempering of the pungency has worked a touch. Aftertaste shows the pungent malts and pure sweetness with some softer vanilla, icing sugar and especially pitted fruit notes with still some noticeable alcohol, grain and especially meatier and mushroomy pungencies at the end. Overall, a deep and super strong beer, even after two years of aging, which probably was expected at 11,5 per cent alcohol, but the sugars, malt and especially meatier and umami notes persist and don't let up, even with all the softer lactose, icing sugar and vanilla notes which are still picked up. I sampled this sixteen ounce (even hard to get THIS one down!) can purchased from Whole Foods in New York, New York (TriBeCa) on 13-August-2018 for US$7,99 sampled at my house here in Washington, just over two years later on 17-August-2020.

On tap @Open Baladin Roma. Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma color cappuccino media, discretamente persistente. Al naso note di bignè al cioccolato, caffè, pan di spagna. In bocca è dolce all'attacco con finale amaro medio-leggero. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Ottima.

Tap at Borefts 2014. Pours black with a medium brown head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, brown sugar, donut glaze, filled chocolates, some roast, milk chocolate and fudge. Taste is pretty roasted coffee up with some milk chocolate. Some dark chocolate and dry roasted finish comes through. Damn.

10/01/18, lame nose that's a bit off and the coffee is overpowering the donuts and vanilla now.

Kicsi, tartós hab, fekete szín. Csokis, kakaós, kávés, vaníliás illat, némi mandulás beütéssel. Kekszes, csokis, kávés, kakaós ízek, markáns vaníliás, mandulás aromákkal. Picit édeskés, testes, alig szénsavas, közepesen keserű. Nagyon finom desszertsör, jól eltalált arányokkal.

Burk hos PQ. Färg meningslös är ju en Imp Svart öl. Doftar porter, hav, torr rostad malt. I munnen omdelbart känns små fina porlande bubblor👍.
