Our brewing history begins with this beer. And the history of strong beer in Bavaria – it was the Paulaner monks who invented this bottom-fermenting double bock. We have been brewing the Salvator for over 375 years – always according to the original recipe, which has been continuously refined over the years. The head is the colour of caramel and the beer is chestnut brown, combined with a seductive flavour of chocolate to give a pleasing intensity on the palate. Along with this comes the finest Munich malt, rounded off by a light note of hops in the background. Often imitated but never duplicated: The father of all double bock beers, whose names always end in “-ator”!

(Bottle) Pours clear amber brown with short-lived thin off-white head. Toffee aroma with hints of raisins. Medium body with good carbonation. Taste of toffee with some fruity hints. Little bitterness apparent and high alcohol content not particularly obvious in taste. Nice beer.

Pretty straightforward doppelbock, steamrolling your palate with deep toffee and caramel malt notes backed up by date, fig, candied apple, and clove. A woodsy, floral bitterness keeps the pint from growing cloy, while the fade has traces of apple jam on buttered bread. Smooth, creamy carbonation makes for an easygoing texture, and the nose is all boozy fruit. Pour's not great, coming out a hazed orange with tons of yeast beasties swirling about but not much head or lace. Otherwise a solid beer.

Weich alkoholischer, herb-malziger Antrunk. Erstaunlich geringe Würzigkeit, hell getreidig malzig, trocken werdend. Die Intensität bleibt hinter den Erwartungen zurück, der Nachhall ist entsprechend kurz. Okay, angesichts des Alkoholgehalts enttäuschend. 10/8/9/8/11/8

From 50cl bottle. Pours a beautiful reddish amber with abundant white foam. Aroma is caramel, brown bread, resinous, candy fruits. Nice and complex, rather sweet but deep. Body is quite dense, with moderate carbonation. Taste is sweet and complex, though not overly sweet. A nice bitterness can be felt in particular in the finish.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Manchester Wine and Liquors. Appearance is clear red/dark orange with light brown, tons of sparkle, 1/2-finger width foamy off-white head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is caramel malts, candied sugar, earthy European hops. Taste is caramel, candied sugar. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with thick, creamy texture, soft carbonation and sweet finish. Overall, palate and appearance help this stand out.
