Our brewing history begins with this beer. And the history of strong beer in Bavaria – it was the Paulaner monks who invented this bottom-fermenting double bock. We have been brewing the Salvator for over 375 years – always according to the original recipe, which has been continuously refined over the years. The head is the colour of caramel and the beer is chestnut brown, combined with a seductive flavour of chocolate to give a pleasing intensity on the palate. Along with this comes the finest Munich malt, rounded off by a light note of hops in the background. Often imitated but never duplicated: The father of all double bock beers, whose names always end in “-ator”!

On tap at ’Salvator’. Clear, dark reddish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, malty and a little fruity aroma of caramel, brown sugar and some raisins. Rather sweet, malty and minimally fruity taste of caramel, molasses, raisins and brown sugar, followed by a short, moderately bitter, a bit warming-alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Rather monotonous, nevertheless tasty and saturating!

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy ruby red with a small, beige head that fully dissipates. Sweet aroma of bready malt, caramel, prunes and plums. Sweet flavour of bready malt, caramel, prunes, plums and apricot with a dry, mildly bitter, warming alcohol finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle. Amber/orange. Big bavarian head. Aroma of dark berries, prunes and malts. Taste is honey, bread, malts and fruits. Bananas and caramel. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, metallic and alcoholic, bordering on being too boozy. Carbonation is on point. It’s a sticky but süffig and warming winter delight.

Bottle. A- Candied fruits, raisins, malty, caramel, subtle peat. A- Copper color, clear liquid, beige head. A- Dried dark fruits, raisins, malty, caramel, bread, subtle alcohol. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- For some reason I expected the color to be much darker. Not near as good as their hefeweizen nor as good as other doppelbocks I’ve had but drinkable for sure.
