750ml bottle [as "Borbecker Heller Bock"]. Minimally milky, dark yellow-ish to orange golden colour with average to huge, frothy, osteoporosing, white head. Sweet-ish, minimally grainy and strawy, pale malty aroma, a touch of honey, weak, lactic, sour-ish undertones with a touch of sauerkraut. Taste is sweet-ish, minimally starchy and strawy, minimally biscuity, pale malty, minimally fruity hoppy, notes of floral honey, a touch of mandarine, mandarine flavoured cookies, very weak, tart-ish, minimally lactic undertones with a touch of lemon juice and sauerkraut.
Dissolved sugar enriched, watery texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, medium to fine, dense, mildly prickly carbonation.
Minimally past beyond BBE, starts to develop an interesting transitional stage before really going bad; displays some character, maybe only exactly at this stage - nice.

0.75 l bottle from 'Getränke Kosmol', as 'Borbecker Heller Bock', best before November 2024. Slightly hazy, golden with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly malty, gently fruity-floral and a little grassy aroma of grains, some honey and light lemon peel. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity-floral and a bit grassy taste of grains, lemon peel, some honey and a touch of fresh grass, followed by a short, moderately bitter finish. Medium to full body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Pleasant, refreshing and well-balanced Bock, rather hoppy for the style. Nice surprise, surely better than expected.

As "Heller Bock". Smooth and grainy beginning. Typical "Heller Bock" aroma with too much grain. Hints of golden fruits, not much bitterness, easy to drink but not too much depth. Grainy-sweetish aftertaste with hints of dryness. Ok.

24th June 2015: large bottle (as Heller Bock) split between four at the Shrewsbury Bottle Exchange meeting, cheers Mat. Was not too sure what to expect: pleasantly surprised. Poured a clean golden amber, the head an off-white blanket. Malty nose leaning towards sweetness, the taste similar with a mild herbal twist and a slowly rising bitterness as you finish each sip. A very nice beer all round with enough going on to hide the alcohol level.

Heller, mild herber Antrunk. Dabei sehr mild, etwas muffig. Kaum süß, im Mittelteil wird das Bier sogar wässrig. Laff herb-getreidiger Abgang. 11/8/7/7//7

(from the tap at the brewpub) Clear and dark amber colour with a medium-sized, slightly off-white foam, slowly lacing. Aroma of toasted malt with liquorice and a dense herbal hoppy background. Sweet flavour, toast-malty taste with a touch of caramel; medium to full body, smooth carbonation; quite sweet but aromatic malty finish with a late arriving bitterness and a light hoppy blend; liquorice in the aftertaste. Quite dark for a classic Maibock, but nonetheless a tasty and warming brew. Well-done (16.05.06).

On tap (@the brewpub): Clear amber coloured, mid-sized off-white head; sweet malt in the nose, distinctive traces of caramel and toasted malt and some bitterness; first sweetish-bitter flavour, switching over to a drier maltiness; quite medium bodied; sweet bitter finish with a big touch of toasted malt, again. A pleasant, well rounded, moreish Bock. So far the best brew from Borbeck........
