"My goodness," muttered Claus, recalling his visit to the Institute, "the restrictive outerwear, the padded room - even padded Christmas tree ornaments. Horrifying ! Yet the little chap seems happier than he's ever been." Claus took a thoughtful sip of a most warming red ale. "Perhaps sanity is over-rated... Ho,ho,ho!"

Sample, thanks grumbo. Lighter coppery, smaller tan head, not too lasting. Quite boozy nose, cheap whisky, slight wood and some biscuits. Medium bitterness, some sweetness, biscuits with nice blackcurrant. Warming finish. Lighter body. Nicely drinkable.

24/12/2021. 2016 bottle from Beers of Europe bbe 2026. Christmas countdown beer 1. Pours clear amber bronze with a small off-white head. Aroma of toffee, dried fruits, malt, sherry, butterscotch, wood, nutty edge. Medium to heavy sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation. Cloying, bittersweet, warming alcohol finish. A touch raw but enjoyable as a slow sipper on Christmas Eve watching Don't Look Up.

Bottle from South Downs Cellar, Haywards Heath. Aroma is nutty, gluey, malty. Dark gold. Foamy bubbly translucent white head. Medium-heavy bitter. Grainy. Spice. Quinine. A tad vinous. Earthy. Medium-heavy bodied. Oily. Average-fizzy. Long boozy finish. Warming but plodding. A poor man's Imperial. Hopefully gets changed to an Impy Red so it was worth it for the tick and liver damage:)
