Brewed in the heart of Yorkshire, this amber ale is a true British classic - the kind of beer that’ll warm your cockles on the coldest of Northern nights. Brewed at the famous Black Sheep Brewery in Masham using Maris Otter malted barley, it’s packed full of rich, fruity flavours for a classic ale that leads the field, rather than following the herd.

Light brown colour. Mild aroma of sweet dried fruit. Solid malty taste with pleasant hop dryness in the finish. Makes for a good session bitter.

500ml Brown bottle: BBD 28 Aug 14, poured into a UK pint sleeve at my daughters house on 03 Nov 13. Clear body of mahogany with a red hue: on top an off-white covering that hung around. Fruity malts (and fruity hops maybe) fill the nose along with semi-sweet malty molasses. The taste follows the nose, but it isn’t as sweet as the smell suggested: the hops come alive in the mouth and impart a good dry bitterness, especially towards the end of each sip. Body depth was fine and the beer was a better than I expected from a supermarket brew.

50cl bottle from Morrisons. Dark amber, almost chestnut, with a foamy looking off-white head; soft in the mouth with some carmael and a touch of red fruit; and some light bitterness before a caramel finish. A fairly standard Yorkshire bitter - very drinkable, but not very exciting.
