Double IPA aged in French oak Chardonnay barrels with Brett. Deep within the tortured aberrations of a monk’s mind there lay a concept of a Holy Grail of beer -- a beer oft imagined but never tasted, strived for but never achieved. It’s Belgian heritage manifested in its yeasty complexity, softened and rounded in its cooperage Français and made to sparkle like the stars first seen by his distant predecessor Dom Pérignon.
Bitter Monk Belgian Double IPA is such a beer. Redolent of citrusy hop bittering and massive malt infusion, this is a beer to ponder, to sip, and, even for a monk, to dream. Why then is the monk so bitter? What provokes that sly smile? What is he wearing under that flowing robe? A triple-fermented beer gives him three times the mystery. Remember, anything worth doing is worth over doing. Nothing exceeds like excess. Even for the cloistered.
And what rough monk, his hour come round at last, slinks slowly toward Brussels to be reborn.

Keg at the CP&K, 10/11/15. Very lightly hazed golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is sticky tropical fruit, candyfloss, bubblegum, apricot, mango, light belgian yeast strokes. Taste comprises bitter orange, nectarine, floral notes, orange wine gums, light yeast, candied fruit peel. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with tropical fruits and a juicy hop wash. Decent.

Bottle poured and shared by Prufrockstar, via Furthur. Thanks guys! Pours a cloudy yellow color. Lemon, slightly sour, bretty. Lingering Belgian yeast finish. Incredible citrus fruit flavor throughout, thick body to it. Very nicely done. Loved it.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy orange with small white head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is Belgian yeast and brett. Medium mouth with strong brett and honey, with light sweetness, hides alcohol well, very good.

Bottle. Yeasty orange malt and cedar/orange peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with large white head. Tangy orange, funky barnyard, yeast, malt and lightly bitter pine/orange peel flavor. Nice blending of Belgian funk and hops.

Pours hazy dark orangish color with off white head. Aromas of citrus fruits, brett, oak, belgian yeast and some funkiness. Similar flavors with the brett coming through nicely. Medium body with lively carbonation. Another excellent beer from Anchorage Brewing.

Helt klockren.
