Bottle from Lekkerbier, Sint Nicolaasga. Aroma is strong oak, Bourbon, ripe fruits, malt, caramel, vanilla, touch of resin with a mild touch of hops. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. I must admit that I’m a bit sceptical as to how well IIPA lends itself for (Bourbon) barrel aging and this beer has not alleviated me from that concern, since much of the fruity hoppiness has been subdued by the huge oak and Bourbon notes. That being said, there’s plenty to enjoy from this beer, it’s hardly a failure and it kind of works, just don’t expect huge hops and all the more barrel notes.

Bitterish, lots of bourbon, not much hoppyness. Definitely tasty, but basically just bitter bourbon taste, but lighter.

Bottle @ home. Hazy reddish color, full sized off-white to beige head, a bit soapy but long lasting. Aroma is malts, hops, don’t get the barrel aging to be honest. Taste malts, some hops, some bourbon in the background but not that obvious. I don’t know what it is but somehow hops and bourbon don’t seem to be dominantly present, although it is a little boozy. Fizzy carbonation a bit as well. Hmm nah, I don’t like it very much. Never a good idea to barrel age (I)IPA’s.
