Bottle. This is quite your standard, CDA. Classic grassy-citrusy hoppy aroma and flavour. Pretty intense taste particularly. High bitterness and the signature CDA character that all these beers have. Quite good.

Cask-conditioned at the WG Grace (JDW), Bristol, February 2014. Dark brown, with a decent, off-white head. Sweetish, bready malts, with some caramel, toasty malts and short, vaguely hoppy finish. Ok.

Cask at Wetherspoons, Reading. Deep brown with a beige head. Chocolate malt dominates with a bit of gravy and a little spiciness. Little hop presence, but it’s smooth and goes down a treat. A decent and quite drinkable mild, surely? Definitely not a black IPA.

Cask at The White Lady. Clear red-brown, thin white head. Bit of cardboard on the aroma, buttery too. Light roast, light hops. Taste isn’t really up to much. OK, but not great.

Cask at Square Peg; dark brown pour with soapy beige head, chocolate and malt aroma, only a feint amount of orangey hop hint of roast not hoppy enough for the BIPA billing.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Cask. Clear deep amber beer, residual pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and a litte crispy, semi dry. Nice condition. Smooth malts, slighy floralness. Light tangy fruits. Tangy peel - orange and tangerine. Whisper of lemon. Light dry finish. Decent beer, but never a black ipa!
