Famed brewer Henry Hobson claimed that he once made an exceptional cider with pink Discovery apples. We rose to the challenge and after our first press in the orchards at Oldfields this cider astounded us; bright, crisp, well-balanced and packed with Discovery apple flavour.

750ml bottle. Pale golden colour, fizzy short-lived white foam head and fruity green apple aroma. Taste is dry tart apple, apple skins, fruity, light barnyard and tannins. Spritzy mouthfeel, light bodied, high carbonation, dry sour finish. Nicely drinkable.

75cl bottle from Saucy Pears. Appearance - amber in the same way as a Provence Rose wine is. Steady bubbles of course. Nose - very fresh green/red apples. Taste - all the less edible bits of the apple. The skin and the core. Palate - light bodied, with a long lean dry texture which extends through the long dry finish. Helluva dry! Overall -if this is their medium dry cider, there properly dry version must be palate rupturing.

Many thanks to McTapps for this sample. Fresh and fruity. Very dry but nice and tart. Easy drinkable with a nice and fresh tart aftertaste. Nice fresh and drinkable cider! Nice!

75cl bottle from Tanners Wines, Shrewsbury in a grand-looking bottle. Pours peachy-pink with a sugary apple pie pastry crust aroma. Has a light, sparkling rosé mouthfeel with an impeccably vivid crisp, fruity taste; every little nuance of those apples comes through with absolute clarity from its fleshy sweetness to the sharpness of its core right down to the pips. It’s an unadulterated, light fruitiness that’s rare to find in cider these days. Dry finish with next to no tannins. Beautiful, flavoursome cider, perhaps more like an apple rosé than a standard cider.
