Citra is the most well received in our series of Single Hop beers. After taking Gold in 2011 and 2012 at the California Craft Brew Competition, and due to its high demand with our consumers, we decided to make this a year-round style. This IPA pours a dark amber in color with an off-white head. The hop aroma is floral, with citrus notes, while the malts have a toasted barley character with some caramel. Citra‘s hop flavor is resiny, with some citrus quality that is offset by toasty malt flavors with a touch of caramel. This is a moderately full bodied beer, with a bright carbonation, and a dry finish.

Bottle. Amber body. Off-white head. Aroma of raw, leafy hops, lemon, orange, toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. Expected this to be brighter since it features citra. Hints of citrus, lemon, orange, but a bit muddled with caramel flavor from the malts that are also a little grainy.

Nice deep copper coloured body with an amber glow and a thick, three centimetre tall tan head - very nice looking, especially for an IPA. Aroma of bright grassy and herbal hops with a bit of sugars, some caramel and a bunch of malt noticeable. Light to Medium-bodied; Grassy and herbal hoppiness up front that fades fairly quickly and just shows malt, caramel, cardboard and a bit of light earth at the end. Aftertaste is fairly simple with only malt and a touch of grassy and earthy hops noticeable. Overall, not such a great beer, I’ve had other single hop citra productions that were much better in showcasing the hops, but this one is a bit flat, one dimensional and doesn’t show enough of the hops to really get through. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BevMo! in San Bruno, California on 05-March-2012 for US$3.99 sampled at home in Washington before heading back out to California in a few hours, on 30-April-2012.

Bomber pours clear copper with off white head. The aroma offers up grapefruit, resiny bitter hops, a touch of acidity, sweeter malt notes, orange juice and orange peel. The taste is much the same with grapefruit, tangelo and orange like citrus hop notes mixing with lighter sweet malts flavors in the background. At times the hops get fairly bitter and the resininess helps to create a somewhat dry finish.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy, orange hued body with a small and fading off-white head. Some lace left behind, but not much. Aromas are tropical fruit, lightly herbal hop qualities, a bit of rotten orange (not how Citra normally is for me). A bit of a urine quality. Estery. Malt profile comes across as a bit sticky, caramel and toffee like. Flavors are pappery, grainy, bitter, medium astringency. Malt seems slightly oxidized, but the hops are still there (hot side aeration? crappy malt (heard that a recent batch of Canadian 2-row is off)). Hops are kind of faint, fruity. Bitter balance. Dry, earthy, soil, metallic quality. Lively bubbles, dry. Soapy. I don’t know why I keep buying from theses guys.

bottle from BevMo, pours light amber with a thin tan head. Aroma is dank as hell, grassy aromas very skunky in a good way. Flavor is more straight forward toast and light nutty malts with a good kick of skunky hops with citrus lingering in the finish. Another good one, but my favorite was the Amarillo.

POurs clear dark copper with a creamy/bubbly 3 finger beige head. Aroma is sort of cat pee/evergreen. Med+ body. Nice malt backbone wholly submerged by rough grapefruit rind. Nice bitter, hoppy drink. Mellow in a harsh way.
