Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is malt, caramel, hops, sweet dried fruits, notes of honey, touch of almonds, apricot, mild toffee. Flavour is sweet with an above moderate hoppy bitterness in the finish. Body is medium, bit sticky mouthfeel. Nicely hopped Barley Wine.

Pours dark caramelly brown. Decently sized, stable, rather creamy, lightly tanned ( off white) head. Smell is intense. Dark malty sweetness (earthy and caramel), dried fruits, sweet impressions, but I wouldnt recognize the honey from it. Taste is full, sweet. Indeed notes of marzepan ( which I read in previous ratings) which I really don't like, at all, but they're light enough for me to take. Boozyness is very hidden. Caramel, dark ( dried) fruits, old chocolate,... All the aspects you might expect. Again, I wouldnt recognize the honey in here if I didn't know it was in there. Medium bitterness to pair against the sweetness. Fairly complex. Body could be a bit more dense, perhaps. OK barleywine. Well complex and all that, but it doesn't seem to go in a clear direction to me.

On keg at Cafe Beermoth. Pours clear mahogany amber with an off white head. Aroma: sweet malts, toffee, caramel, raisins. Taste: light to moderate sweet, light bitter, toffee, caramel, honey, dark fruits, nutty, boozy. Medium bodied, with average carb & a bittersweet finish. Tastes a bit young, I often think this style benefits from a couple of years of age to smooth out the flavours
