Introducing Numero Uno Summer Cerveza, our just-released summer seasonal that begs for warm temps and long nights. Originally released as Agave Cerveza in the summer of 2014 as part of our Brewhouse Rarities program, it’s the artisanal answer to the easy-drinking, south-of-the-border slammers the younger versions of ourselves knew and loved.
Flaked maize makes up one third of the malt bill and highlights the distinctive corn and cracker flavor traditionally found in Mexican lagers. Agave is added at the end of the boil and the lime peel post-fermentation to impart a distinct, zesty character and a crisp, clean finish. Your new Summer Cerveza clocks in at 4.9% ABV.

This may be called ’Numero Uno’ but it is the second beer in a ’random tasting session’ I am having with myself at home on 13th April 2017. 35.5cl can: BBD 31st Jan 2018, obtained from a local TESCO supermarket and poured into a huge ’Judas’ tulip glass, because that’s how I roll. Clear golden body, swiftly fading white bubbles on top. Smells and tastes like ’pop’. Lemonade/Limeade like in nature and very ’un-beer-like’ for what I know about Flying Dog (only had five of their beers before). Wish I had read the reviews before parting with my money to be honest. Sweet and weird, sadly not to my liking.

Can from Tesco. A clear golden lager, with a thin, white, head and touch of fizziness. Light, cereal malts, some bittering hops, a hint of lime and solid finish. Fine.

High hopes for this bottle. Crispy lite looken pour. Fairly cuttin mild metalic aroma. If they would have eased up a bit with the agave effects, probably would be a little more civilized. Each swig starts off as what seems to be a lively co2 initiation cut but actually evolves to be that agave flavor that runs rather flat. Seems to have more alky than listed here. In the end it seems to grow on you a little.

Keg at Rose & Thistle, Frimley Green. Aroma brings to mind apples. Didn’t know anything about this beer so googled it and discover it’s the lime and agave syrup. Bright gold. Thin white head. A lively tower of bubbles. Initially quite bland but the fruit then comes through. Although it’s not overly sweet. Some bitterness in the finish. The agave is more obvious than the lime. Light bodied. Soft. Some carbonation. Long but restrained finish. I like it. Definitely prefer refreshing. However as a juicy lager type drink it’s not that exciting.
