Gwatkins Farmhouse Perry is made from a blend of old fashioned varieties of pears, harvested from the few remaining pear orchards of rural Herefordshire.
In late Autumn they are milled and pressed to extract their golden juice, which is then laid down over the winter months in 100 gallon oak vats.
In the following spring the perry maker taps and samples each vat and then, only when judged to be ready, does he rack it off into bottles or barrels.

Bag-in-a-box at 6% ABV from the producer's own stand at the Thame Country Fair. A clear peachy-gold colour. Sweet pear juice up front before a hint of tart vinegariness. The finish is intriguingly sweet and spicy. An interesting one; I quite enjoyed this.

Third by gravicask, shared with Finn on the third day of GBBF 2020 Winter, Old Redstreak Bar. Misty grey-yellow body, bare naked at the top, no lacing. Moderate smell of pears, dry. Sweet pears to the taste buds followed by late arriving acidity. Fair enough. (Birmingham 06.02.2020).

13/4/2019. From Bag in a Box, at Hull Real Ale & Cider Festival, 2019. Pours clear very pale gold with minimal head. Aroma of pears and light wood. Moderate to medium sweetness, light tartness. Moderate body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Very nice sweet and tart mix to finish. My favourite of the 14 tried from the cider/perry list.
