Our first barrel aged beer - Parliament is a 7.8% mixed fermentation stout with the complexity of a red wine, aged in a single oak whisky barrel for 12 months with a blend of native Northumbrian wild yeast cultured from sloes on our farm, brewers yeast and brettanomyces. Roast coffee gives way to raisin, tobacco and leathery notes with a slightly tart and tannic finish.

16/4/2019. Bottle from CentrAle, Newcastle, sample courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed. Pours very dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of wild yeast, wood, dark chocolate, whisky, gooseberry and dark fruit. Light sweetness, moderate bitterness, light tartness. Moderate body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Very woody, bretty finish. Dryness and a little more tartness develops. Great complexity. Liked this a lot.
