From backlog. Intense funky sourness, yeastiness, some blackcurrant juiciness and farmyardy cellary notes. Pretty good.

Gott i vårsolen.

Lot no. 1015. Lovely red colour, smell is fruity and Morpheusish. Flavour is really tart, plenty of lacticity, and of course a good bunch of blackberry. Fruity, but not a fruit beer, just enough to add something extra. Rye adds more layers, & complexity.

Draft @Kantien. Hazy orange/pink colour, white foam. Sweet nose of red fruit. Taste is very fruity along with very tart acid notes. Easy drinkable, very refreshing and fruity, also a bit salty. Very nice!

A new addition to Alvinne’s range of Berliner Weisses made with rye, originating as a collab with Laugar, but now leading its own life entirely under Alvinne’s name. Draught at Kantien, thanks to my girlfriend for sharing. Loose, egg-white, very incoherent, large-bubbled head quickly disappearing into eventually nothing at all, hazy warm rosy orange blonde with cognac-coloured hue. Aroma initially quite sulfuric (the infamous ‘putteke’) but once this fades, a wealth of sweet-and-sour blackberries appears, carried forward by notes of yoghurt, stewing rhubarb, lots of soaking wet oak wood, peach, lemon rind, sourdough, wood sorrel, buttermilk. Crisp, sour onset, very fruity thanks to the generous dosage of blackberries, very convincing indeed, reminiscent of rhubarb, gooseberry and sorrel as well, enhanced by the beer’s natural lactic acidity; still never becoming burning acidic, maintaining a high level of drinkability, also due to a medium-soft carbonation amount and a body that feels a bit rounder and fuller than one would typically expect from a Berliner at this ABV. Pleasantly bready backbone dried by yoghurty lactic sourness and woody tannins, adorned with powdery-bread crumb yeast effects and an ongoing blackberry juice effect. Arguably a bit too earthy and even very slightly ‘dirty’ for a Berliner Weisse and much more cemented in Alvinne’s loosely Flemish-inspired sour ale house style, but a very drinkable, enjoyable sour once again, though I must admit I liked the other variations on this theme even more.
