Curt came up with this crazy idea over 5 years ago and now, 3 years in the making, is finally ready for your enjoyment. He first started by seeking out the finest local honey and maple syrup and aged it in freshly emptied bourbon barrels for over a year. Then he brewed the biggest beer we've ever made, a robust imperial stout with house apple wood and hickory smoked Munich malt, and aged it in the barrels that previously held bourbon, maple syrup and honey. The result is a truly complex work of liquid art designed to be savored.

Bottle shared, thanks! Dark brown with a ring tan head. Aroma is hugely woody with vanilla, bouzy bourbon, maple syrup, chocolate, toffee, molasses, caramel, malt, fudge. Flavour is heavy sweet. Full bodied with alcohol warmth and soft carbonation. A lot of hype on this one but it is a very decent impy. [17-09-2016]

RBSG Pgh 2016 grand tasting. Big & black, looks like it’s large & in charge. So mildly attractive on the nose for an imp. Some chocolaty flavors greet the tongue on the first try. Wow, I hate imp stouts but this is so civilized and attractive. Smooth. Yes, malty chocolaty fun all round. Most beers with choco are not well balanced, this is. Just a nice impy fer sure, which makes me wonder if its really imp at all! If this really is an imp stout, one of the better made ones IMHO. Since I hate impstout, I don’t know if this means anything, but I find it right up there with Dogfish Head World Wide Stout 2002 (23%), Mad Brewer Black Storm, Spring House Big Gruesome Peanut Butter Cup, Southern Tier Blackwater Series: Choklat and Two Brothers Northwind Imperial Stout. Nice job, but I wonder if they can continue to duplicate this brew. Repeatable? Better be listed & separated by year? Near the end, some of that mild coffee comes thru but this stuff never comes across as artificial, just well made civilized imp stout all the way. So that makes me wonder if it should be in the imp category at all! Big thanks! You guys ROCK!

Bottle at RBSG PGH 2016 Grand Tasting. Dark brown color. Aroma has burnt licorice, tannins, vanilla, espresso. Taste is rich, boozy in a good way, very roasty with lots of woody notes. Delicious.

Pitch black and oily. not too much head. This smells a lot like Adam from the wood which I know is a weird comparison but it’s there. maple is light, booze is present. a little coffee and a lot of barrel. The flavor…it’s good. I think honey totally dominates over the beer. I think the maple syrup takes a complete back-seat entirely. It’s very oily, not very thick and liqueur almost like a brandy or cognac is center-here. I do get other coffee, vanilla, etc elements but this is like a thick syrupy honey mess and while intense, it’s not all that balanced. Very cool label though.

Bottle - Big boozy barrel notes, some peat and char. Deep dark brown with no head. Rich and thick with some wooden char, vanilla and a huge sticky finish. Super long and sticky. Nice.

Bottle at RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a dark brown with small tan head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong maple, bourbon, wood, roast. Thick body, chewy, bourbon, maple, vanilla, very sweet, really enjoyed this.
