Observers of yestercentury once doubted the existence of the Dark Swan, stating the fair-feathered fowl was the only color of its kind. Explorers eventually upended that theory, shocking the world and shining light on the Dark. This beer might just do the same. It’s a sour ale fermented with dark red wine grapes, giving it its uniquely deep and rich purple hue. Then it received the signature Lagunitas treatment with a healthy dose of experimental dry hops. This might just shock your taste buds!

Tap at Mellow. Pours a pretty, grape, ruby color with a finger of pink foam that lingers. Big jammy, vinous nose with blackberry and grape really standing out. Very jammy on the palate: strawberry, blackberry character pronounced with a pronounced red zin-like character. Dry finish with lots of fruit. Great stuff.

Tap at Sidedoor. Filtered purple body. Purple tinged off-white head. Deep grape tones. Has the new school hoppy sour tone, but leans into the grape a lot. Big and strong. Doesn’t really fall into any other category than US Sur. Unique. OK. Purple sweet tarts.

On tap at Lagunitas. It pours a deep reddish purple color with an off white head. The aroma has cherry and raspberry with a touch of dark malt. No roast. The flavor is rich with cherries, blueberries and Concord grapes. Sweet and fruity with some Welches grape juice. Blueberries. Full on the palate and light, clean acidity. Good.

On tap at Lagunitas, pours a deep dark pinkish amber with a small pinkish off-white head. Aroma brings out tart raspberries, followed by light tartness. Flavour is very fruity, with tons of tart raspberries upfront, followed by light wild yeast. Heavy fruity and somewhat boozy. Very nice.
