Observers of yestercentury once doubted the existence of the Dark Swan, stating the fair-feathered fowl was the only color of its kind. Explorers eventually upended that theory, shocking the world and shining light on the Dark. This beer might just do the same. It’s a sour ale fermented with dark red wine grapes, giving it its uniquely deep and rich purple hue. Then it received the signature Lagunitas treatment with a healthy dose of experimental dry hops. This might just shock your taste buds!

Draft 10 oz pour at Lagunitas, Seattle. Opening day, or so I think it is. A purple-ish red pour, dark, with a disappearing head. Sour grape aroma. Flavor I’d both sweet and sour grapes and cherry, and finishes very cool and juicy. A winish sour, but pleasant in overall flavor. Enjoyed this.

Tap mad mex. Purplish brown, oh this looks tasty. Smells somewhat metallic. Taste is at first tart then it gets a little in yer face with some higher alky attributes. Medicinal effects set in for a while. Not bad for a beer near 9%! Hides that alky well. Yes, more like 6% and not a whole lots co2 in this one neither. Ok.

Tap. Pours rich clear Cabernet, small pink head, lasts and laces well. Aroma is light, vinous, grape juice, grapefruit, mango, pears. Flavors is light sweet, light tart. Different, unusual. Kinda works though. Medium body, soft carbonation. Glad I had a chance to try this one!

Draught @ The Half Pint. Clear dark brown with reddish tint against light, very small frothy beige head, faint funky aroma, medium carbonation, tart taste with some sweet caramel follow-up, thin body, longisddh sour cherry-roasted malt finish. Very nice and smooth sour.

Not sure how a sour brewed with dark red wine grapes tastes like a cranberry bomb, but, hey, I don’t know much about sooooo many things. Starts with a huge hit of cran-tastic berry tartness, then morphs into a cabernet-like middle before finishing bitter and sour. Fascinating to let the flavors evolve as it warms; grows more and more winelike as the beer disappears. Curious. Tasty. Pretty, too.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a faint oily light brown head. Aroma of funk, flowers, earth, sour grapes, bread and a bit of grass along with a bretty and very wild strain of yeast. Medium-bodied; Strong funky flavours at first with a big floral and fruity flavour at first along with some chocolate, grain and sour fruit near the end. Nice smooth finish with some yeast, brett, funk and super sour notes that mesh well with the roasted malt and sweetness of the fruits. Aftertaste is rich and full of flavour with a lot of complexity in the yeast strain, for sure, definitely nice to sample and would be nice to see in a bottle for some aging to see what happens to this one! I sampled this 8 ounce pour on draught for US$7,00 sampled at Blind Tiger in New York, New York on 03-December-2016.
