The Kolsch Golden Ale is style of beer made famous by the German brewers of Cologne in Germany. Famed for its brightness, clarity and easy drinking style Pale and crisp light bodied ale, fruity with a restrained hoppy dryness from Hallertauer & Tettnanger hop flowers. Cool fermentation creates a crisp, clean finish. It features best quality imported German Pilsner Malt. We also add a touch of Australian grown Wheat Malt to improve head retention on this beer. Whilst it is fermented with ale yeast it is then finished in cold temperatures like a lager. The result is a style that exhibits some of the best characteristics of both categories. Kolsches tend to be light and drinkable, but typically exhibit the much crisper, cleaner finish you would expect from a pale lager. These attributes make Kolsch an extremely quaffable beer that goes down easy and yet still begs for another sip, perfect for warm weather or any time you want something simple that still has a bit of integrity.

Tap at the brewery. Poured a hazy light golden straw colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is malt, gluey yeast, light hop. The flavour is light bitter with a light, watery, yeasty, light floral, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation.

330ml into schooner glass. Very slight hop aroma. Minimal head, cloudy yellow, looks like fruit juice. Nice taste! Bitter, creamy, a bit fruity. Short finish. Very nice. These guys make nice beer.

From a 330ml bottle on 14/7/2010. Pours very cloudy, with a good dose of sediment. Has a big grassy, floral, fruity aroma with a lychee like perfume. Flavour wise, there is citrus fruit and honey, with some herbal notes. All up, a very enjoyable golden ale. Red Hill is two for two so far.

Pours pale gold with a small persistent head.Aroma is light on but shows some floral notes, along with a hint of melon. Little in the way of malt.Flavours, on the other hand, are malt-dominated, with caramel and bready notes, followed by more floral and slightly grassy hops.Carbonation is quite high.

Bottle. Cloudy orange, large white head. Aroma is of Morrocan preserved lemons (!) and floral hops. Tastes of fruity malts with a citrus tang and a dryish hop finish. Unusual and refreshing. I liked it more at the brewery. [rerate] This has grown on me a bit. It’s mild and medium bodied with subdued but classy hops reining in a gentle but alive fruitiness.
