From tap at Nanobrasserie de l'Ermitage Taproom with JFE 04.10.19. Ebony. Diminishing brown head. Aroma of raspberry jam, lemons and brett. Taste of sour lemons, brett and tobacco. Dry, acid and astringent mouthfeel. Interesting.

The second time Ermitage ‘confronts’ a beer of theirs with fruit lambic from nearby Cantillon – having sampled and liked the first version, I was eager to taste this one, consisting of a blend of Noire du Midi with Cantillon lambic. From tap at Ermitage’s taproom in Anderlecht. Thick and densely creamy, irregularly lacing, pale yellowish beige head, slowly dissipating over a blackish beer with thin hazy mahogany edges. Aroma of moldy acorn shells, damp forest floor, dried prunes, old raisins, wet caramel candy and chocolate bars, cranberry, sweat, green apple, balsamic vinegar, black tea, ground hazelnuts. Sour onset, very fruity-juice with notes of blackberries, sour cherries, sour apples and unripe medlar, fizzy carb, supple mouthfeel; continuous lactic and slightly lemony sourness dries a nutty and toasty malt body, with the toasted aspect providing lingering bitterness in the end; very earthy finish, with some eventually burning acidity to it, although remaining very drinkable. Bit sweaty and musty too. I personally found the normally streamlined, cleanly ‘Anglo-Saxon’ and toasted bitter character of the porter (Noire du Midi) clashing with the musty, earthy and sour character of the lambic – as if two beers were poured into the same glass without blending. The similarly made Vent d’Est (from Jean Van Roy’s so-called “little side project”) much more appealing, in that both components were much better blended there and actually embellished each other, which was far less the case here. The first ‘Chai’ remains the best by far.

Draft @ BBP Wanderlust 2019 - day 2.

Draught @ L'Ermitage, Brussels. Sour, roasty and funky with some raspberry lambic notes, wood and vinous oak, berries, licorice, coffee and chocolate. Interesting, but feels a bit unbalanced.

23/08/2019 - draught tasting glass @Ermitage Taproom. Black colour, small tanned head. Nose is sour, coffee roast, bit red fruits. Taste is sour, red wine, coffee, sour ending. Somehow I didn't dig this one. Different tastes of the mix, didn't mingle enough for me...

Bardzo fajnie sie wyblendzilo, takie bardziej lmbikowe w sumie ale nie zdominowane, i fajnie chlalne. Bardzo dobre jak dla mnie. Niedocenione czy jakos tak --- Beer merged from original tick of Porter de Coupage on 23 Aug 2019 at 18:41 - Score: 6. Original review text: Smakuje i pachnie mniej wiecej tak, jak zapowiada ten blend. Ino jakby duzo wiecej lambika. Dlugie posmaki, spoko kwasnosc. Nic specjalnego, wynalazek
