2/IV/21 - 33cl bottle from a trade @ home, BB: n/a (no print on the label where it should be) (2021-245) Thanks to Bierridder_S for the trade! Part of a lost bottle box I recently discovered…

Taste: very malty, bitter, very bitter, bit resinous, soft oxidation, some caramel. Aftertaste: very bitter, malty, some orange peel, soft acidity, bit fruity, hint of banana, sweet touch.

Bouteille 33cl, bottled 09/2019.

The first 'commercial' beer by a new microbrewery in Mouscron in the French speaking part of Belgium, not sure why they named it brew number zero instead of brew number one, but who am I to judge that. Frothy, mousy, eggshell-white, membrane-lacing, dense and regular, thick stable head on an initially near-clear warm 'old gold' coloured beer with pale orangey metallic tinge and lively sparkling throughout. Aroma of ripe apricot, soggy peanuts, moist camomile and other field flowers, unfortunately quite strong H2S (sewer water) piercing through obnoxiously, honey, grass, freshly cut pear, vague hints of dried orange peel, rainwater, cloves. Fruity onset, sweetish, ripe pear, pineapple ester, some banana, cooked apple touch, relatively softish carb for a Belgian blonde, very slick, smooth, bit thinnish mouthfeel. Cracker- and bread crumb-like malt profile, supporting a quickly increasing, rooty, tonic water-ish hop bitterness with bitter floral and peppery aspects, clinging to the back of the mouth and the throat in a resinous way for quite some time, eventually eliminating the initial sweetishness completely. This whole beer does not feel overly ambitious and there are some amateurish aspects and off-flavours to it, but this finishing, drying, uncompromizing hop bitterness makes up for a lot - if it were a bit more aromatically hopped, whether it be in the old 'noble' way or the modern 'New World' way, it would have been better still, provided they first get rid of that H2S note. Not too bad for a first attempt thanks to that firm hop bitterness, but there is certainly a lot of room for improvement.
