Drop the compass in the dust and hit the highway; the direction will take care of itself. Our friends at North Brewing Co headed to Ellon to create this deep, complex milk stout with aromas of warming spice from the Tonka beans, toasted oak and vanilla. Like all roadtrips, this one is also powered by coffee and it leaves a beer as dark and true as the blacktop stretching out ahead.

Keg at PoW, Farnborough 21/02/20. Malty chocolate boozy pudding aroma. Dark and glossy. Light beige ring of a head. Light bitter. With a boozy sweet tiramisu streak. Medium bodied. Creamy. Average carbonation. Astringent finish. Nice enough.

Bottle at home, 31/12/19. Pitch black with a well presented lasting slightly dirty tan cap … great retention … a proper looker of a beer! Nose is light roast, cinnamon, vanilla bean, cocoa powder, toffee, sweet malts. Taste comprises measured coffee bean, light black peppery spice, vanilla ripple, dark malts, hint of marzipan, light roast, milk chocolate, toasted brown sugars. Medium bodied with a little bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of alcohol. Every so often these BD small batch beers really deliver something solid and this is one of them !

Tap at BrewDog Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a thin light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, red berry fruits, marzipan, Christmas spices. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, rich, liqourice, light charcoal, light boozy, spicy hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A real winter warmer.

On tap at Brewdog Birmingham, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out cocoa, medium roast, light vanilla, and a touch of coffee. Flavour is quite complex, with tonka beans, light vanilla, and cocoa. Nice use of adjuncts. Not a particularly complex beer, but it's well-balanced.

33cl. Nice herbal beginning. The Tonka beans are there, creating a nice all-spice flavour. Nuts, caramel, roasted molasses. Soft and easy to drink, very nice balanced. Spiced dark chocolate aftertaste, soft, velvet finish. Fantastic brew!
