In honour of the “Nameja gredzens” film, we have brewed a full-bodied dark honey beer, sweetened with Latvian forest and meadow blossom honey, which enriches the taste of the beer and creates a fine interplay with the bitter caramel of the roasted malt.

Fast gone cream to amberish head, over reddish cola-coloured clear beer. Nuts, walnut cake, old bread, portwine. Sweetish, bit spiced, dried red fruit. Dried prunes, raisins. Again walnut/X-mas cake. Light body, just a wee bit slick. Again undercarbonated. Bit sticky aftertaste. Sweet, bit as an aged beer, yet far from unpleasant.

Re-rated. Smell - weak, honey, caramel, roast. Foam - medium-thick, soft, honey notes, roast notes, sweetness, biting bitterness. Sticks. Appearance - generic black bottle cap, quite dark, clear red mahogany. Taste - honey, sweet, biting bitterness, hops, caramel, some acidic feel. Not bad.

Bottle in Riga. Fruity malty nose. The beer starts mild and smooth. Round and herbal with honey there, round and smooth. Not too deep, the honey harmonises with the malt very well, sessionable with a bit of missing depth.

50cl bottle from Stockmann Riga. Pours dark amber to cherry brown with a modest off-white to beige head. Malty aroma with plenty of honey, some slightly floral notes and hints of dried fruits and caramel. Sweet and smooth with malty honey flavours and a rather light bitterness. Decent and drinkable. --- Beer merged from original tick of Namejs (Tumšais Medalus) on 30 Jan 2018 at 19:28 - Score: 6
