System of a Stout [Imperial Armenian Coffee Stout ] - An imperial stout infused with all the traditional ingredients of a savory cup of Armenian coffee: cardamom, molasses, coffee (of course), and brandy. In the kettle, the beer is lightly dosed with green cardamom for exotic spice notes. Molasses adds a richness that seamlessly blends in. The finished beer was then aged for several days on masterfully roasted coffee from Portola Coffee Lab in Costa Mesa. The beer was then aged for several weeks on Armenian brandy-soaked oak chips for yet another dimension of flavors and aromas. Take your time & enjoy this endlessly complex & nuanced beer.

Bottle shared at Anti-Carnavalstasting 2019. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized light brown colored head. Aroma is malts, heavy espresso, spice / herbal a bit. In the flavor though -besides the malts, dark malts etc- the espresso dominates, but the herbal / spices stuff (what is it: nutmeg, cardamom ginger or so?) are there as well, too bad imo, for me that's not something that makes it better, but as I said, fortunately the espresso dominates. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle. Pours dark brown and opaque with a dark tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee, mocha, hints of pepper. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter, roasty, coffee, green pepper. Full body. Yeah, maybe I shouldn't have cellared this since 2015 :/

Poured from the tap at Beachwood Long Beach. Jet black with tan head. Coffee and lots of cardamom blend perfectly with some mild chocolate and brandy sweetness rounding it out. Alcohol is hidden quite well with just a medium body. Great, but would’ve liked it even more if it was just a touch thicker.

Poured from a 22 oz, 2017 vintage bottle. Aroma is coffee forward with some lighter cardamom notes. Light chocolate and roast notes with hints of molasses. Light dark fruit and raisin notes with hints of alcohol spice. Pours black with a medium sized, thick, creamy, mocha head that exhibits decent retention as it steadily recedes to a small film that lingers. No lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is somewhat/moderately sweet with moderate bitter chocolate notes. Moderate coffee with light cardamom and roast. Medium to medium high bitterness. Light dark fruit and raisin notes with some light alcohol spice. Medium light oak notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low to medium low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent stout. i am not a huge fan of cardamom, but the coffee notes are nice. Its not too sweet, but it does become sweeter as it warms. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but its silky so that helps.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee over dark, dark treacle. Full bodied. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, treacle, and maybe a touch of wood. Brandy? Could be. Heat is not an issue. This is challenging to parse, but very flavorful.
