On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a dark brown with a small beige head that quickly diminishes. The aroma is a fruity malt and raisin. Medium mouthfeel with a sour fruit and yeast. Easy to drink a good Belgian strong ale from Ommegang.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt with a touch of dark fruit and sugar. Flavor is a dark plum with some chocolate malt and a fruity Belgian yeast. I guess this can be considered a Belgian stout. Lots of dark malt and fruit with a nice Belgian yeastyness.

On tap at Bangers and Lace. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a bit of sour red fruit and some dark grains and earty yeast. Flavor has a good amount of sour red fruits with dark toasted grains.

A deep dark ale with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, a sweet dark fruit with alcohol warmth, plums, light molasses. In mouth, chocolate, molasses, woody plums and curacao, with nice warming alcohol, licorice roots, nice. On tap at Prohibition Pig, April 6 2012.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Nose/taste of flaked oats, banana, wheat malt, roasted chestnuts and yeast. Finishes with lots of banana and wheat malts with hints of clove. Some spicy hops throughout. Medium body.

Draft at Jack Brown’s, Harrisonburg. Pours a dark brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate and tart fruit notes. The taste is chocolate, caramel, cherries and plums. Lightly tart. Medium bodied. Nice.

On tap. Pours with a deep brown hued body with a tan ring of head. Aromas are deep, dark fruit, vinous, raisiny, red wine like. Raspberry, mild tobacco, earthy, jammy, estery with plums and mild isoamyl acetate. Vanilla. Flavors are bready, grainy, oats, boozy, raisin and vinous with medium phenolic spice. Strawberry and a ton of esters (prune, plum and cherry). Seems like there is a bit of a odd note that I normally associate with overuse of D2. Fusel. Flavors are dry, medium bitterness, and warming with lively carbonation.

Getting an early rate in on this one. Bottle from Total Wine. The body is very dark brown and the head is thin and light brown. The aroma starts with alcohol and stewed prunes before revealing raisiny, slightly chocolatey depths. The aroma is heady, but fairly complex and inviting. The body is full, though the alcoholic dryness in the finish is actually a bit incongruous - this tastes like it should finish sweeter. There is even a slight acidity to the finish, not much, and more than I would like. The flavour is raisiny and plummy, though not all that sweet for this type of beer. Again, there is decent complexity here, perhaps just undermined a bit by too much alcoholic dryness in the finish. Would have loved a hint of dark brown sugar to pull this together. Good solid beer, even though I feel it could be improved.
