Wet Hops (fresh hops) are hops that are picked off the vine and used in the brewing process before they are dried and packaged like normal. To brew this beer we get Cascade Hops from Yakima, Washington. They are picked, shipped and put into the brew within 36 hours. The Wet Hops have a grassy, vegetal, chlorophyll flavor that is reminiscent of fresh cut Greens. We showcase this 100% Cascade Hop Beer with a very light and crisp grain bill including a small portion of rice. This allows the aroma and flavor from such a rare, very seasonal ingredient, to shine.

Draft at San Diego airport as I was leaving after a great beer tasting trip. This was a solid end to the journey.

Draught at Lulu’s, 7/10/15
Glassy, pale gold appearance with a small, foamy white head that shows moderate retention.
Soft, clean nose shows fuzzy apricot and tangerine notes, fresh, leafy-green floral hop notes and a smattering of pale malt sugars, light touches of fruitiness from the yeast and no alcohol or flaw.
It’s funny how similar all of the (very few) wet hopped beers I’ve tried taste. They all have low bitterness, which is nice, with a lightly grainy, almost plant-like (white tea like, perhaps?) flavor. Some continuous, soft orange/tangerine-like flavors are highly pleasant and no resin is noted, the simcoe and centennial being only present in dry-hop form. Watery, drinkable texture with medium carbonation. High attenuation and quite dry. Great session beer. Ballast Point is really doing great things (minus Sculpin having gone down hill, IMHO).

Sample at Khoury’s in Henderson, NV. Clear yellow-gold color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and toasted malt. Light-bodied with flavors of zesty citrus, grassy hops and malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Draught Almost no head, straw-coloured beer. Banana, honey, grapes, sweet. Sweet-ish, gareen herbs, liqueurish. Syrupy, but NOT cloying. Sticky, well-bodied. Strange... I got anything BUT dry-hopping. How this works (was actually called Dry Hop ale..)

On Tap @ The Wet Hop Event at the Hayward Bistro. Pours gold with a slight haze and bright white head (medium size bubbles). The aroma is mostly hops with fresh green, just picked, Cascade hops along with grapefruit hops, mild spicy hops and a sense of malt sweetness. The flavor just attacks the taste buds with spice and floral hop bitterness followed by grapefruit hop bitterness too. The wet hoppiness really shines through and moves toward slightly tart. There is almost no malt presence in this beer. Solid IPA.
