On tap at Bodega. Pours a clear light gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet corn and straw with a touch of bread backing. Flavor is similar with corn and straw with some sweet grains underlying. Slightly crisp.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark gold with a half finger of white head. Aroma of corn and grain. Taste is light sweet. Meh, not bad.

Corn-yellow/gold beer; somewhat fluffy off-white head, not very stable. Metallic-grassy nose, even a bit like sewage water - otherwise said, pretty unappetizing. Unpleasant, slightly lemony-sour and very metallic taste, plus a flavour as from decaying grass. light, watery, fizzy, but the aggressive flavour keeps coming. Ugh! Txs to DavidA - I guess ;^}

Courtesy of Vinny’s at the La Crosse airport. Clear straw color with a fizzy white head that disappears quickly. Nil lacing. Aroma of mild hops and wet paper bag. Light-bodied and crisp with a decent hoppy character, along with a hint of malt. The finish is bitter but not flavorful. All in all this is an average Lager.

Pretty good for what it is. An ordinary light lager. Yellow color, very light and simple hop and malt flavor. No flaws.

So I felt the need to class up my list of ratings with the one, and only (as far as I know, anyway), can of beer with a magnificent walleye painting! This lager has above average flavor for the style. In fact, LaCrosse lager is clearly above repulsive status. And, did I mention, there's a damned fish on the can? Holy shit!

Canned. I want to say something nice about the folks at City Brewery, who worked hard to keep the yeast active at the brewery after Pabst/Stroh’s bought out the Old Style name and closed them down. In fact, this is a pretty decent American lager. Pouring from the can gives a nice fluffy head that remains for most of the drink. The usual straw color is no surprise. Can’t find anything wrong with the taste, which is okay considering its Wisconsin-cheap price. Definitely recommend this as your basic lawnmower beer.
I took this to my brewclub meeting with the current Old Style to see how they stacked up against each other. Even in tiny sample glasses, sitting warming on a picnic table, we had no difficulty picking out this as the better beer (though truthfully, not much better).
