A Märzen that is true to German tradition, it is only brewed once a year to celebrate the fall harvest. The perfect balance of Pale, Munich, and Vienna malts create its toasty backbone. Prost!

Tap at DU. Surprisingly not in there, maybe in the backlog. A little sweet, hefty for the style. Not much balance, distant minimal hop tone. Cheap ingredients, but competent brewing. OK.

12 ounce can from Festival Northland, 9/1/20. Clear copper, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of grain, caramel, stone fruit. Taste is cherry, caramel. Thin, low bitterness. Meh.

12 ounce bottle into dimpled mug, best before 12/13/2015. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big honey, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big honey, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of honey, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth and creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Oktoberfest style. All around impressive robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle: Dark golden orange pour with a wispy layer of white head. Sweet lager malt aroma with a tangy floral spice that hints at cloves. Tastes gentle with abundant malty sweetness and very light floral hops. Nice session brew.

On draught at Ed’s (No Name) Bar in Winona. The beer is a clear slightly reddish-orange color with a medium thin off-white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Sweet bready malt aroma with some caramel notes. Light body with a caramel malt flavor along with a touch of hops. The finish is sweet with a toffee/malt aftertaste. Just average overall.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a big (three finger) head. Aromas seem to have pie spice or something to them with a caramel malt sweetness. Flavor is very good, but a bit thin in the finish... caramel malt and nutmeg like spices are interesting and work well together.

Medium yellowish head, amber-clear beer. Chalk, caramel, some ester, green peas mash aromas. Caramel, ambrée malt, pretty "crisp" taste, but with a touch of human sweat. The palate develps definite earthy bitterness, getting less "easydrinking". Ah, not bad - American "crisp" interpretation of the ubiquitous Märzen. Thanks to David.

Bottle. Amber pour. Decent tan head. Not much aroma or flavor in this one. Certainly not a bad tasting beer, but from an Oktoberfest, I expected more.

Pour is a cloudy brown with a large white head. Aroma is decent with some roasted malts with a touch of hops. Flavor is also pretty decent. Bready, malty some caramel and nutty. Nice attempt.
