Huge thanks to hophead22 for the bottle (shared with billshmeinke). Pours with a hazy brown hue and a minimal off-white head. Great aromas centered around big brown sugar, melanoidins, barrel, rich, caramelization, light oxidation, maple and tannin. Flavors are of maple, brown sugar, rich caramel and caramelization, toffee, marzipan, and oak. Very smooth, vanillin, a touch of cardboard oxidation. Light bubbles and fuller bodied. Excellent still!

Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Poured a hazy dark brown with opaque edges and no head whatsoever. Aroma had strong notes of caramel and toffee with grain and a strong alcohol kick. Flavor was sweet from caramel and grain notes with a boozy bourbon finish. Beer was surprisingly smooth on the tongue.

thanks Dave for making this 700th rating an awesome one. Courtesy of ibrew2or3. Pours brown with beige head and still bubbly beige head. Aroma is loaded with bourbon, light creamy nose with caramel. Taste is malty and caramel with a butterscotch creamy warming mouthfeel that covers the palate. This is one beer that is hard to put down, the sheer aroma is just pure goodness. Words cannot do this beer justice.

Rating number 2000. Picked up at Ledger’s in Berkeley at least a year and a half ago. Pours clear amber with copper edges and thin tan head. The aroma is simply huge and can be sensed feet away from the glass. It comes across as rather boozy followed by woody goodness, a touch of caramel, vanilla and a bit of alcohol heat to the snoot. The taste is very smooth and rich. Wow. I get sweet caramel, some solid wood notes and vanilla. The taste then moves on to include hints of dark fruitiness like prunes and plums. Plain old YUM!

Bottle shared by Marcus. Thanks! A little of this goes a long ways. Dark plummy aroma. Brown hazy, sedimenty color with no head. Full bodied with very mild carbonation. Caramel, dark fruit in a light way, mildly warming. Finish is not sweet, but not really bitter. A very good sipper. Good competition for those high % Euro ales.

Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol and malt as well as light notes of bourgon. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel, as well as quite a lot of alcohol, that leaves a slight burn on the tongue, combined with light notes of bourbon, prunes, and wood.

(Bottle 18 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Pours a cloudy, muddy light brown with a small, rough, off-white head dissipating in no time. Distinct, sweetish bourbon aroma. Very rich body, a bit flat with lots of sweetish caramel and then all the characteristic bourbon notes of oak and vanilla. This is almost like drinking a shot of bourbon - and I love bourbon! If all European strongs were like this it would be my favourite style... 280507

Small yellowish rim over ruby-highlighted deepbrown beer. Vinous, liqueur-ish, brandy-like nose. Some roasted malts notes, a truckload of brandy/distilled notes, woody, oak, and, of course, specifically Bourbon. Immediately warming, vanilla and oak tinted taste, sweetened milk with brandy, raisins-smitten, and molasses, but the last blending in perfectly with fruity notes from all kinds of forbidden, exotic dark fruit. Rich, luxurious, viscous fluid; alcoholexplosion in the throat. This is a "lager" - bottomfermenting for the pro’s. I know scores of original Doppelbocks, that ought to look here to know how it could be done (better). Many, many thanks to RodgerD for this series

Thanks to droopy49 for sending this rare gem! Pours clear medium brown with virtually no head. Caramel and coffee with lots of bourbon in the aroma. Moderately sweet start to finish almost a thinned down English Barleywine.

Bottle pours a hazy medium amber with a small but sticky head and lacing. Aroma is a sweet dark malty flavor. reminecent of a barlywine. Flavor is also rather malty, brown sugar, raisons and the notes of the bourbon barrell that it was aged in. Softly carbonated and a very nice full smooth palate. Thanks Jordan.
