cask@Charlies, CPH - dark brown/reddish coloured pour with a creamy beige head. Roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, nuance of dark dried fruits. Decent drop this.

Dispensed via cask into an English half pint jug at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green, Jan ’12. Pours very dark brown in colour with a thin white head. On the nose - roasted malts, a hint of chocolate and a small dose of liquorice. Flavours on the palate largely match those on the nose, perhaps a little dried fruit in there as well? Not overly complex in taste. Slightly lacking in body and a little watery, a fairly dry finish.

Cask. Clear and pretty reddish brown with a dense beige head leaving laces. The nose has more dark dried fruits than actual roast. Fairly light body and now a slight roastiness but again the dried fruit dominates. Subtle whiffs of licorice and ashes. Dry, lightly hopped finish. 170312

From cask at Charlies. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted, chocolate and roasted breadish. Bitter, dark roasted, breadish and malty. Lasting dry, roasted and quite bitter into the finish.

Cask Red-shot end-of-scale brown beer with a B.C."H.". Roasted, burnt malts, grains and rubber tyres’ burnout. But nothing like a Speedway Stout, mind you - it’s British dignified. Sourish taste, with fresh oakwood, dry bread malts, chestnuts, and in the finish slightly bitterish liquorice. Medium bodied, slickness apparent, grist- or charcoal-. Nice porter, not meant to be overpowering, delivering just the goods. The overall impression is thus better than the individual marks.

Cask handpull at Man of Kent, East Peckham. Very, very dark ruby with lasting beige head. Very tasty beer. Fresh yeast, choc and some dark fruit skin on the aroma. Nice dark fruits in mouth. Really lovely choc, damson, blackberry, blackcurrant flavour, but not sour. Lovely porter.
